Palm Springs Door Tour
UPDATE: Photography is no longer allowed at "That Pink Door." The owners have asked that visitors to the area please respect their private property and not trespass. So although taking photos there is no longer permitted, you can still enjoy the featured article and take in the a-DOOR-able sights below!
Now back to the original article:
What better way to celebrate the return of Modernism Week 2018 than by talking about some of the best midcentury-inspired (and colorful) doors in Palm Springs, which can be seen on the oh-so-charming Palm Springs Door Tour this season!
Hosted by Palm Springs Style and Dunn-Edwards Paints, the official Palm Springs Door Tour is a self-guided bike tour of the architecturally unique and colorfully stunning doors of the Indian Canyons neighborhood in Palm Springs. Popular for its fun take on modern colors and design, this experience will introduce you some of the most well-known and unique doors in the area.
However, if making it out to this event is not possible, then you can go on a self-guided walking, biking or driving tour of the neighborhood on your own–like I did! Joining me on my tour were my two good friends, Evelyn and Paulina, who were just as excited as I was to see all the pretty doors and pops of color offerings along our route.
The most famous of these doors is “That Pink Door,” (located at 1100 E. Sierra Way) for its aesthetically pleasing design and gorgeous millennial pink color. I mean look at it: it’s so PRETTY!
On any given day you can find groups of people waiting to take their picture in front of the door. Take the day that my friends and I visited for example: in the hour we were there, one couple and a family stopped by as well to get their cute shots taken too. It’s pretty safe to say that the door has now become iconic to this neighborhood and is a feature attraction for many selfie-takers and photographers. So, don’t be shy and snap your picture in front of “that pink door.” The owners are way proud of having an awesome door, and invite guests take their photo in front of it and tag them @thatpinkdoor on Instagram.
Continue down the street to find the house with the Party Lions! At this home, the owners are known for decorating their front door lion statues with fun pool inflatables. This time around it was a pair of peppermint twist snow tubes on display!
Then continue up the next couple streets to find many more vibrant front doors to visit. Seriously, the whole neighborhood is FULL of amazing doors. Not only is embarking on this self-guided tour fun, but it’s also pretty artsy.
Just take a look for yourself…
If visiting the region, or if you are a local and have not been yet, then this is definitely a must-visit! You can also go on Instagram to see what the fuss is about by looking up #palmspringsdoortour or #doorsofpalmsprings!
